The emblem that has been adopted to symbolize the Brethren Heritage Festival has some meaning to it that we wish to share with you. The background of the emblem is taken from the symbol of Camp Harmony which I am sure that many of you will recognize, but it is the cross that is different. (The emblem was adopted by the Festival Committee in 1983)
It's background is from a seal, the first known impression in 1753. Evidence is that it was designed by Alexander Mack Jr., and that he intended it in some sense as belonging to the Church of the Brethren as a whole. In any case, in recent years some Brethren have revived the emblem & used it in this way. The central element is a cross, the universally recognized symbol of the Christian faith, of Jesus Christ and his way. Superimposed upon it, is a heart, which speaks of devotional commitment, a total giving of one's self 'from the heart.' The third element, the fruit of the vine, recalls the passage, "I am the true vine.... abide in me ... by this my father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciple.'
